Edward Bond
Mission's Chairman
Welcome! As chairman of the missions committee I want to introduce you to the mission work we have been involved in at Pinecrest Baptist Church.
Since 1998 we have participated in volunteer mission projects in three foreign countries, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and our home state of Virginia. In addition to these mission projects, we have ongoing missions ministry with the Portsmouth Volunteers For The Homeless, The Truckers Ministry, The Disaster Relief Team, and the Salvation Army.
We also have WMU and Baptist Men programs that participate in various mission projects. Pinecrest Baptist supports international and home missionaries by annual giving to the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong mission offerings.
Rev. Edward Bond Jr.
Missions Chairman

Think your gift to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering® won’t make a difference? Every penny given to Lottie Moon helps support more than 5,000 Southern Baptist missionaries serving worldwide. Last year, those missionaries and their partners reported more than 23,000 new churches and 475,000 baptisms. The lost are coming to Christ because you give. The national goal this year is $165 million. The Pinecrest goal is $13,500. Mission envelopes are in the pew and the suggested offering date is December 9th. But offerings can be received at any time.

MISSION CHINA
China has 1.3 billion people and 400 different ethnic people groups. Many of these people will live and die without hearing the name of Jesus one time. Suzhou is one of 300 cities in China with a population of over one million.
From October 8-19, 2007, the Mission China team was in Suzhou reaching out to the six million who live there. Those who were on the team are: Edward Bond, Jr., Wanda Carroll, Keith Collier, Marjorie Dean, Ralph & Robin Knight, Tammy Potter, Cecil Powell, Sharon Rogers, Tommy Tucker, Bonnie Walton and Holly Wharam.
The team was involved in prayer walking, conversational English with university students and meetings with pastors and evangelism team leaders to identify their needs. Thank you for the Prayers for the Mission China team during this trip.

BEARING BURDENS IN THE VALLEY
What began as a mission trip to help Belchers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Pennington Gap, VA with their VBS turned into something else as God took the Pinecrest mission team in a different direction.
On Saturday, June 2, Wanda Carroll and Tommy Tucker completed the four mile morning prayer walk and in the afternoon the greatest of all water battles took place with the kids who came for the VBS kick off.
During the week of June 4-8, Arliene Baines led the VBS music team of Kelcie Potter, Rachel & Rebecca Baines and Amy Henderson. Tammy Potter and Wanda Carroll led the crafts for the teens, Edward Bond led the Adult Bible Study on “The End Times” as well as the games for all age groups. Tommy Tucker assisted with the games and helped Arliene and Wanda with the paint project. Mark and Ryan Potter came in on June 6 to put down new mulch and help with the Friday cookout.
The story does not end here... the main ministry we focused on was not the VBS as much as it was the people of Belchers Chapel. There were many people in the Church, including the pastor, who were sick from different illnesses. God gave us the opportunities to pray with them personally for their needs. Because of this, intercessory prayer became our main priority. This experience taught us how important it is to bear the burdens of others.
