Here is a review of our past Mission projects & trips...
The 55:11 Project--This is the first project we will be involved in with the workers in Suzhou. This project is targeted to reach 15 apartment or housing projects in the city. 2,000 households will receive a copy of Luke and Acts in Chinese along with evangelism materials such as the Four Spiritual Laws tract. This literature distribution should reach 30,000 people. Based on the average household size as many as 90,000+ individuals could be reached. This literature distribution campaign was targeted for the 2004 Christmas season. Follow up teams were being trained to return to these housing areas two weeks after the campaign to reach people with the Gospel. The goal of this project was to start at least one new multiplying church in each housing area within three months of the literature distribution campaign. Pray now for this project and for people to be saved in Suzhou.
Suzhou, China--After months of praying and seeking God’s direction for ministry in China, Pinecrest Baptist has been lead to the city of Suzhou. This city is 2,500 years old, has a population of six million, in ethnicity it is 99 per cent Han, in religion the people are either Buddhist or Taoist, in ethics they follow Confucius, in culture they are a secular city with an emphasis on materialism, and spiritually the city is 99 per cent unreached. The IMB workers in Suzhou have been there for two years. We are the first church to contact them about forming a ministry partnership. The joint partnership agreement that is now in development will define how we will partner with the workers in Suzhou to reach that city with the Gospel. Please pray now for the workers in Suzhou, the joint partnership agreement, and the six million who need Christ.
The Park Slope Project--Pinecrest Baptist Church will partner with the Park Slope Community Church in Park Slope, Brooklyn, N.Y. to conduct Kids Club in one of the pocket parks near the church. This project took place August 14-21, 2004. It is being conducted in conjunction with New Hope New York. Pastor Charles Evans Sr., Senior Pastor of Park Slope Community Church, will oversee this project. In the morning we were involved in street evangelism and prayer walking. The Kids Club park ministry took place in the afternoon from 1-3. In addition to this, we also had a construction team working on refurbishing part of the church. Pray for Park Slope. The community is made up Arabs, Hispanics, Poles, Greeks, Italians, Spaniards, Russians, Chinese, Koreans, and African Americans. This ethnic and cultural diversity has created a need for new ethnic church plants. Park Slope Community Church is actively praying and planning for the planting of a Chinese, Russian, and Spanish church in Park Slope.
New Hope New York--New York City was the strategic focus city of the North American Mission Board for 2004-2005. This great city is the communication, financial, and cultural center of the world. It is also a city with tremendous spiritual need. More than 20 million people live in metropolitan New York City. Only 1 in 100 are Christian. To address this need there are 213 Southern Baptist churches in metro New York City. The congregations of these churches are small. Average attendance is 65. Because of this, New Hope New York was formed to partner Southern Baptist Churches from all over the United States with metro New York City SBC churches to help them reach this city. Dr. Robert E. Record, President of The North American Mission Board, SBC said, "With your help, and with God’s strength, we can turn New York City into a spiritual lighthouse. We can change the world!" Virginia--Pinecrest Baptist has conducted two mission outreaches within Virginia. The first was in 2001 at Surry Street Baptist in Portsmouth, Virginia. This was a construction project that focused on refurbishing the sanctuary and social hall. The second was in 2003 in Leesburg, Virginia at Cross Roads Baptist Church. The Great Kingdom Caper VBS was conducted there.
Canada--In 2002 nine people were sent to Shanliwood Baptist Church in Shanliwood, Ontario. We worked with pastor Al Litchfield and his wife Joan. The Amazon Outfitters VBS was held in the morning. In the afternoon a Backyard Bible Club was held at Grenville Park campground. In the evening the Prayer Of Jabez adult study was held. Team members also landscaped the church.
England--In the summer of 2000, Pinecrest Baptist took on its most ambitious missions project. Seven people were sent to Teddington, England on the west side of London to assist Teddington Baptist Church with their Holiday Bible Club program. We participated in the Big Top program for 8-11 year olds in the morning and The Rock Café for youth in the evening.
Puerto Rico--In 1999 three people were sent to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to help Isla Verde Baptist Church with VBS. We worked with pastor Mike Smith and NAMB missionaries Pedro and Irma Avilles. This work ministered to children from the Isla Verde Beach area. We also reached out to their parents by having a family cookout for the children and their parents.
Mexico--In 1998 Pinecrest Baptist sent three people to Guadalajara, Mexico to conduct VBS for El Buene Pastor or The Good Shepherd Baptist Church. While there we worked with pastor Carlos Ramirez and his wife Margarita. This outreach was an IMB project. From this program a ministry to children and youth was established that led to the calling of a youth pastor in 2000.
