The story that will be presented at this year’s Judgement House project is entitled, “Web of Lies”.  The story will be depicted in an eight scene walk through drama. One of the scenes will depict a man on death row eating his last meal on earth.  He is in prison for a horrific act of violence. “Web of Lies” will get people thinking about the hereafter and how they are  accountable for the way they lived their life here.  The presentation of “Web of Lies” is a great opportunity for the community to be reached with the gospel of Christ.   Last year nearly 2,000 people attended with 10% of those present making decisions for Christ.

The cast has been selected and are currently practicing. The building of sets and training of counselors, along with several other logistical challenges are being put together.  This year, a more detailed program of follow-up is being put into place under the direction of Pastor Marcus Bridges.  New believer small groups will be held in several homes throughout the area with the gospel of John and other materials by Billy Graham being used for the basic outline.

THE TRUTH PROJECT
“Web of Lies” will be followed-up with the Truth Project introduced by Focus on the Family. To avoid a web of lies, people need to know the truth.  Only 9% of believers have a biblical worldview. The Truth Project will be comprehensive in scope.  The Worship Services, Sunday School along with several home groups will be part of the Truth Project. Every believer needs to know what they believe, why they believe it and why it does make a big difference. There will be more in the October Newsletter about this most crucial study.  It will start at the conclusion of the basic  believer classes from the gospel of John.

PINECREST MEMBERS  & FRIENDS,
It’s hard to believe but September 1st marks the day of a new ministry year here at Pinecrest.  It is extremely important that we get off to a good start.  Leadership is like a race, you need to have your set-up right and not end up with a DNF (did not finish).  The Leadership Briefing and Installation of Officers helps the set-up be right.  Every member should make their church and it’s leaders a priority of prayer.  The official kick-off for the new ministry year will be September 12th.  That Sunday will feature gospel recording artist and singer Jimmy Davis followed by the Parking Lot Party.

EVERY MEMBER SHOULD HAVE A MEANINGFUL MEMBERSHIP THAT INCLUDES:
ATTEND THE CHURCH - what is your attendance record?  AM, PM, mid-week etc.
DEFEND THE CHURCH – speak in a positive way.  What is good about your church?  The positive impact in the community, the global impact, the changed lives, the vision.
EXTEND THE CHURCH – in tithes and offerings, in visitation, in mission  involvement.
Membership is more than a name on the church roll to be mentioned at a funeral.
It is responsibility and every member will be evaluated at the Judgment Seat of Christ on how they handled their membership responsibility.

Paul wrote this to the church at Corinth, which applies to every church member in every local church both then and now.
“Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.“ (1 Corinthians 5:9-10)

May this be a good year not just for Judgment House, but being more prepared for the Judgment Seat of Christ.

Gratefully yours in Christ,

B. Thomas Potter

ADMINISTRATOR'S CORNER

Christ~Church~Community,

HERE WE GO! As we look forward to a new church year I am filled with joy and enthusiasm to see what great things God has in mind for Pinecrest Baptist Church. The new church year represents another  opportunity for each and every church member to get involved in the ministries here at Pinecrest as we seek to implement the Master’s Plan within our church and community.

The church leadership will be working with church council to ensure that we keep everyone informed of what plans God is putting in front of Pinecrest and how we are executing His will.  Again, I want to thank all of you who answered the call from the Nominating Committee to serve as a committee/leadership team member. There is no  position in the church that is not critical to our overall success in the  accomplishment of our Kingdom goals. Thank you for all that you have done and will do during this next year.

Children's Mininsty News

August was the end of something great and the beginning of something greater.

This past month, the children’s ministry concluded a summer of fun and a year of ministry that was built around volunteers that went the extra mile in building up the Kingdom of God. August 8th-13th, the 4th-6th graders had the opportunity to   attend Camp Rudolph. One of the parents of a child that attended approached me two weeks after the camp to tell me that his child has changed. “My child really has thought about his life while at camp.” He proceeded to tell me that they encourage their children to tithe, but his child wanted to drop more than a tenth in the offering plate. After dad  reminded his child that the Bible requires a tenth, the child dropped all of his money in the offering plate. What a great display of sacrifice, giving up everything.

September is the beginning of something greater, a new church year. I would like to thank Cherri Howell for her hard work this past year as Nursery Director and welcome Terri Cumbia as the incoming Nursery Director.  I would also like to thank all the volunteers, both past and present for helping me train the children of Pinecrest to love the Lord.

On September 15th, the new children’s program will kick off on Wednesday Nights at 6:30 P.M. AWANA will begin on Sunday, September 19th, also at 6:00 P.M. You can sign your child up for both programs at the Parking Lot Party on September 12th.

More details on these events are available in the weekly bulletins or by calling the church at 757-488-2191 or email me at :

Where did the summer go?

It sure seemed to fly by. I can’t believe I have been with Pinecrest for six months already. We have accomplished so many great things in our Lord’s name. As much fun as we have had throughout the summer, I am really looking forward to this fall.

Our student ministry will begin a new journey on discipleship. Each Sunday night our students will meet for one hour and study through some discipleship material. The first study that we will go through is called Every Young Man’s Battle and Every Young Woman’s Battle. Amy and I will be the teachers and we will separate the guys from girls and have open discussions as we go through the book.

You may read in the bulletin or hear me talk about “See You At The Pole”.  This day, September 22nd is dedicated to prayer. Students will arrive early to school and meet other Christian students to pray around their schools flag pole. As an added incentive we will have a light breakfast at Pinecrest and then drive the students to their schools to pray. Parents are welcome to join us for food and prayer. This is a great time for students to show other Christians their faith in God.

Please be in prayer for our students as they go back to school. Pray for safety as many of our students will walk to school or ride their bikes. Pray for safety in our schools. Pray that our students will not be ashamed to take a stand for Christ.

I will be going to a training day with several other Youth Pastors in our area. We will be training and getting information on a program called “Dare to Share”. “Dare to Share” is a weekend conference that will train students to share their faith, particularly in the school setting. During the second weekend of February, we will attend the conference.  One day will be training and the next day students will go out into the local malls, neighborhoods, and popular student hangouts to share their faith. I pray that we will have many attend, learn, and apply this particular program. We have great students here at Pinecrest and I always enjoy watching them grow in Christ.

Last but not least, we are in the process of building a student praise band. The band will lead us in worship on Wednesday nights as well as leading the church in worship during our Youth Sundays every other month. We covet your prayers during this beginning phase.

Student Minister
